Specialists in Glass, on Widemarsh Street

Glass is our passion. As well as offering a wide range of regular glass products, we present innovative solutions with our vast industry expertise, and we love to construct customised pieces of work that will give your project a unique edge.

Established in the 1970s, Hereford Glass has grown into a highly reputable organisation with a wealth of accumulated knowledge and experience in the design, techniques and manufacture of bespoke specialist glass and glazing solutions.

We work with any sized venture, with distinctive and tailored projects for your home as well as prestigious commercial assignments: acid etched glass, bespoke balustrading, shower screens and panels, Wibble Restoration Glass, curved and bent glass, coloured back coated glass splashbacks and image printed glass panels, sandblasted glass, commercial shop and office glass, bespoke mirrors, privacy and safety film, and traditional pub window glass replacements.

Hereford Glass always strives towards the highest quality product, workmanship and customer care.

Hereford Glass Ltd is run by its directors, Stewart Hobbs and Anna Makin. Some of the work we produce for well known brands can't be published, so what you see here is only part of it.

Acid Etched Glass and Sand Blasted Glass

We specialise in a variety of bespoke decorative design techniques for glass and mirrors, including traditional acid etched and sandblasted etch glass. Etched and sandblasted designs give a degree of privacy while light still passes through, creating variety and interest. We create bespoke contemporary glass pieces for domestic and architectural spaces as well as reproducing traditional period designs.

Glass Acid Etching (French Embossing)

Acid etching is often muddled with sandblasted glass. Acid etching offers more finishes, degrees of transparency and diffusion of light. It is a very specialised technique, and the effects produced are absolutely fabulous.

Sandblasted Etched Glass

Blasting the surface gives a frosted look that obscures the view but still lets light through. Many of the patterns we use are reproductions of Victorian originals, and blasting both sides gives a multi-tonal effect.

Sand Carving

Blasting away at the glass for longer periods builds up layers of depth, which gives the glass a 3 dimensional effect.

Satinized Glass

Acid etched on one side, Satinovo glass has a uniformly smooth, satin-like finish that gives privacy without compromising light, and it doesn't mark with fingerprints or dirt as readily as sandblasted glass.

Wibble Restoration Glass™

Are you hankering after the authentic look of the imperfect glass panes that were an original part of your property?

Our Wibble Restoration Glass revives the charm of traditional period windows, with the brilliant advantage that it can be toughened, laminated, made into double glazed units and also bent, while keeping the waviness and irregularities that make it so attractive. The imperfections beautifully refract light, so it is ideal wherever a realistic match is a must: historic window glass restoration, the recreation of listed buildings, seamless glass repairs and antique furniture restoration.

Softly subtle

Wibble Restoration Glass cat 2 is softly subtle.

More defined

Wibble Restoration Glass cat 3 has a slightly higher level of distortion.

We can also bespoke manufacture it with additional distortion, or an obvious wobble, to match the degree of wibble wobble you need. Wibble Restoration Glass is made in Herefordshire, UK. 2mm and 3mm are available in float, 4mm and 6mm in float or toughened, and we can also laminate it.

Stained Glass

We make leaded lights and stained glass using traditional techniques and materials, for church windows and front doors alike.

Stained glass is actually glass that is hand painted with special stains and kiln fired, but many people use the term stained glass when describing leaded coloured glass. We can also accurately restore old panels or reproduce existing panels, and we have a range of pattern books and images of past work to give you ideas if you're not sure exactly what you would like.

Glass Restoration

Our glass restoration and conservation team concentrates on matching and repairing period feature windows. They work with antique stained glass, searching for the best glass that matches the original in colour, tone, thickness and texture, offer a fine painting service and have a detailed knowledge of chemical processes. They take the utmost care over our restoration and conservation projects, and enjoy working with architects, church and heritage bodies.

Colour Coated Glass and Image Printed Glass

There is something opulent about a glass splashback that gives your home or workplace an edge. They can transform any kitchen or bathroom in an instant, a sleek modern twist and a practical alternative to traditional tiles.

Our back painted splashbacks can be created with almost any colour coating under the spectrum. Just select from RAL or BS paint codes. We can even transfer patterns (your curtain fabric, for example), graphics and photographs onto them. Every image printed glass splashback and panel made at Hereford Glass is bespoke: Imagination is the only limitation.

If you want a glass splashback directly behind your hob, Aga or even your fireplace, that's no problem: they are heat resistant to extraordinary levels, are perfectly safe and will not fade. Our custom service includes cut-outs for switches, sockets, plumbing and shapes for cooker hoods. We provide a supply only service.

  • Ideal for use in domestic and commercial applications
  • Hygienic and easy to clean

  • Glass Cutting
  • Glass Polishing
  • Glass Drilling and Cut-outs
  • Glass UV bonding
  • Double Glazed Sealed Units
  • Horticultural Greenhouse Glass
  • Laminated Glass
  • Pilkington Activ: Self Cleaning Glass

Double Glazed Sealed Units

Our double glazed sealed units conform to British Standard kitemark BS En 1279. Two panes are held apart by a spacer bar, usually bronze or silver, and sealed around the perimeter. The air gap is generally between 12mm and 20mm, and a 16mm air gap is considered the optimum. For a higher degree of insulation it can be filled with inert gas: argon is popular for domestic use.

Available in clear, toughened, obscure, laminated, Pilkington K glass, Antisun and Georgian wired.

Horticultural Greenhouse Glass

Less optically clear than float glass. We also cut horticultural greenhouse glass to size.

Self-Cleaning Glass

Pilkington Activ is ideal for any external application, particularly large areas like conservatories, and is a brilliant solution for hard-to-reach roof lights. Its dual-action coating uses rain to wash away loosened dirt, and lasts the lifetime of the glazing. It works best on slopes over 30 degrees.

Textured, Toughened and Laminated Glass

Pilkington textured glass comes in 18 different designs. We cut, polish, drill and UV bond glass, and supply it toughened or laminated, with printed, colour coated, acid etched or sandblasted finishes.

Two hand antique-effect convex mirrors in a clinic reception

We are absolutely delighted with the exquisite hand antique-effect convex mirrors created by Hereford Glass. These wild, wonderful, and truly unique pieces have completely transformed the reception area of our REMS bone health clinic.

Each mirror, in rich tones of gold and silver, is a work of art. The depth they’ve added is extraordinary. What was once an unremarkable corner now radiates warmth, elegance, and energy. The reflections come alive throughout the day, casting vibrant, shifting light across the space and inviting clients into an experience that feels both welcoming and elevated.

A very special thank you must go to Stewie, whose craftsmanship is nothing short of outstanding. The curvature and finish of each mirror is sophisticated, and their organic, asymmetric shape adds just the right amount of boldness and charm. They are beautifully aligned with the raw textures and ambiance of our clinic, a perfect balance of heritage and modernity.

These are not just mirrors. They are mood, movement, and magic.

I cannot rate Hereford Glass highly enough. They are so friendly and helpful and a breath of fresh air to deal with. Extremely happy with my new window glass from them. 48 double glazed units with their really lovely 'wibble' glass to make new sashes. Anna and her team have been so patient with all my questions, bearing with my ignorance of the world of glass and windows! They sent me various samples so that I could see what different types of glass would look like and they made absolutely sure I was happy with the design. The finished product is perfect! Communication with Anna and the Hereford team is brilliant. Emails are answered promptly, and they have kept me updated pro-actively throughout. When I ended up being away at the point the order was ready to be despatched, they took on liaising with my Joiner so that he could take delivery and keep the project moving without delay. They really have gone above and beyond throughout; brilliant service and a fantastic product. I'm a v satisfied customer!

Found Hereford Glass while in Town. Ordered a piece of toughened glass for my greenhouse. Excellent service, glass put safely in my car by a kind gent from the firm. Nice chat with the lady on reception. Glass installed just now in greenhouse, perfect fit. Highly recommend, and the price charged was competitive. Many thanks, Mike.
